Overview
Many devices now use Private (Random) MAC Addresses when connecting to networks. At Whittier College, disabling private (randomized) MAC addresses can be helpful in some cases—especially to avoid re-registering your device when connecting to the "Poets" Wi-Fi network.
Follow the steps below to disable private (randomized) MAC addresses for your device, then authenticate at https://auth.impulse.com/ in a browser window to complete the connection.
Apple Devices
Mac (macOS Sequoia or later)
Click the Apple Menu and select System Settings.
Choose Wi-Fi from the sidebar.
Click Details or More Info next to the "Poets" network name.
In the menu next to Private Wi-Fi Address, select Off.
iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch
Open the Settings app.
Select Wi-Fi.
Tap the information (ℹ️) button next to the "Poets" network.
Toggle Private Address to Off.
Apple Watch
Open the Settings app.
Select Wi-Fi.
Tap the "Poets" network name.
Toggle Private Address to Off.
Android Devices
Open the Settings app.
Go to Network & Internet.
Select Wi-Fi.
Tap the "Poets" network to configure it.
Select Advanced.
Go to Privacy.
Choose Disable Randomized MAC.
Windows Devices
Click the Start button and select Settings.
Go to Network & Internet and select Wi-Fi.
Click Manage known networks.
Select the "Poets" network.
Click Properties.
Turn off the toggle for "Use random hardware addresses for this network".
Final Step – Authenticate
After disabling the private/randomized MAC address for your device, open a web browser and visit https://auth.impulse.com/ to authenticate your connection to the "Poets" Wi-Fi network. This will ensure smooth connectivity without needing to re-register your device.
